Barcelona based, PAL Robotics launches a new model of its popular TIAGo mobile manipulation family of robots. The new TIAGo OMNI++ features an omnidirectional drive with 3 DoF mecanum wheels. The robot also has been redesigned with two arms (manipulators) and a new body and “head”, making the robot more functional than ever before.

The TIAGo family of robots is completely customizable and is already used by institutions worldwide. TIAGo OMNI++ mobile manipulator with omnidirectional drive aims to take robotics and mobile manipulation even further!

TIAGo OMNI ++ is a bi-manual platform that comes with an omnidirectional drive, and interchangeable end effectors, 2 x LiDAR providing 360º FoV and a screen. TIAGo OMNI++ has two 7 DoF mobile manipulator arms for manipulation tasks, and a number of end effector options. Developers can even integrate their end effectors of choice. In addition, various add-ons are available to enhance the robot capabilities further. Developers can take full advantage of the maneuverability offered by the TIAGo OMNI++ omnidrive base. The omnidirectional base provides precision positioning even in constrained environments. This is where a robot with omnidirectional movement is the most optimal proposal thanks to its versatility of 360º movement. TIAGo OMNI++ uses an omnidrive vs the differential drive used on the TIAGo original robot.

Dr. Jordi Pagès, Head of Intralogistics and TIAGo Product Manager at PAL Robotics said of the launch of TIAGo OMNI++, “we’re very excited to launch TIAGo OMNI++, an enhanced version of our TIAGo robot. TIAGo robot is already a popular mobile manipulator and the platform of choice for many institutions, as well as being used in robotics competitions. With the development of TIAGo OMNI++ the robot is able to move very easily, with versatility in navigation, for precision positioning even in complex environments. This brings researchers more possibilities than ever to develop new applications for the robot, and I’m looking forward to seeing where TIAGo OMNI++ can take robotics.”

TIAGo  was first developed by PAL Robotics in 2015, and has been evolving continuously. The robot combines perception, navigation, manipulation & Human-Robot Interaction skills out of the box. The robot is well suited for applications in the healthcare sector and light industry, as demonstrated by the European Research Projects that chose the robot as a research platform. TIAGo has a modular design and the robot can be configured based on customers’ needs.

The TIAGo robot family of robots is suitable for a range of scenarios including application in Ambient Assisted Living, Factories of the Future, and Smart Cities. TIAGo took part in European Research Project for assisted living EnrichMe, is part of project Open DR for robotics in healthcare, and is used in project CANOPIES for Human-Robot collaboration in vineyards.

TIAGo robot is also available for free in simulation, so that end users can test their algorithms before buying a physical robot.

PAL Robotics started in 2004, when a small group of engineers built the first fully autonomous humanoid biped robot in Europe.  PAL Robotics develops state-of-the-art service robots specially designed to solve customers’ needs, including TIAGo the mobile manipulator, retail robot StockBot, humanoid robots REEM-C, TALOS, and ARI, intralogistics solution, TIAGo Base, as well as distributing quadruped robot SOLO 12, and developing biped research robot, KANGAROO.
