Stratom, a manufacturer of autonomous ground vehicles and robotic systems for logistics and operations, said the US Army has awarded it a contract to build a personnel safety system for Robotic Combat Vehicle-Light (RCV-L).
The Perimeter Safety for Autonomous Vehicles (P-SAV) system will provide 360-degree sensor coverage and machine learning to identify nearby people and objects. P-SAV will feature new ROS2-based software to connect with the RCV’s operator and computer system to execute suitable behaviors.

The RCV-L standalone appliqué kit will combine robust hardware, a well-protected computer system, and advanced image processing software to automate tough tasks including personnel identification and situational awareness. The platform will balance ease of use, versatility, and cost to maximize reliability in all weather conditions.

We’ll use Summit and the eXpeditionary Robotic-Field Artillery Autonomous Resupply (XR-FAAR)TM vehicle platform as a surrogate for RCV-L to test the P-SAV prototype before deploying it on RCV-L.
