Tunisia based mobile robotic company Enova announced this week that they have deployed a number of their P-Guard outdoor AGVs to support Tunisia’s Ministry of Interior with remote patrol operations in the countries capital.
The country is currently under lockdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Enova AGV offers a unique solution to the need for street patrols as the vehicle is remotely operated by the ministry staff. With the extra eyes and ears on the street, individuals who are breaking the curfew can be safely confronted and recorded with the on-vehicle video cameras. Enova is expecting expanding operations to other cities as the COVID-19 pandemic response evolves.
A Teleoperated Solution
The P-Guard robot has a max speed of 12 kph, and comes equipped with 4 infrared HD cameras and a 360 degree camera. It uses GPS for localization and also includes WiFi and 2G/3G connection to connect all of the sensors in real time for the operator. The vehicle can operate for up to 8 hours on a single battery charge.
This is just one example of remote ground vehicles being used to effectively enable remote operations and amplify policing and pandemic response operations. Other examples of AGVs being deployed for COVID-19 response include tele-presence for hospital doctors and for UV light disinfection.
